Malgrat de Mar
In 2009, within an international research project Acces_SOS, we conducted a participatory process together with the municipality of Malgrat de Mar, with the residents of the El Castell district, to improve the accessibility of some roads in the suburbs with a gradient of 20%.
Starting from this shared path, we have developed an executive project of unique platforms, new road sections, new lighting, seats, points of shade and rest to maximize the mobility of elderly people and catalyze the processes of social aggregation and safety of the suburbs. The intervention concerned the surface of the road surface and the underground utilities. The project was able to count on a very small economic investment estimate from the municipality. The intervention therefore focused on the graphic impact of the colors and on an unconventional signage shared with the citizens. The intervention represents a pilot project for the city, for one
renewed characterization of the areas 30. The flooring involved the use of a continuous mantle of colored asphalt, in new plantings of trees for shade, and where it was not possible to add greenery, modular shapes were designed with stencils that reproduced the shape of leaves.
This has resulted in an improvement in the visual incisiveness and quality of living. The project was awarded at the European landscape biennial.
